It was a historic first in London on Tuesday when Hindraf joined forces with an indigenous group from Sabah and Sarawak to lobby legislators on issues still lingering from the British colonial period in Malaysia.
Hindraf chair P Waythamoorthy and advisor N Ganesan made the case for their Hindu Rights Action Force at the House of Commons, while Sabah and Sarawak were represented by Common Interest Group Malaysia (Cigma) activists Daniel John Jambun and Nicholas Bawin Anggat.
Both Cigma and Hindraf reiterated the case that Britain had a lingering historical, legal and moral obligation towards its former subjects in its ex-colonies.

The High Court has today struck out the RM100 million defamation suit by former ISA detainee M Manoharan, who is also Kota Alam Shah assemblyperson in Selangor.
Manoharan, a former lawyer for the outlawed Hindraf movement, was detained in December 2007 and released 18 months later on allegations that he was linked to separatist group Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka.
The DAP politician has sued the government, inspector-general of police, the attorney-general as well as three mainstream newspapers - New Straits Times, The Star and Utusan Malaysia - for alleged defamation.
High Court judge Zabariah Mohd Yusof dismissed the suit in chambers this morning after hearing submission from all parties.

Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) chairperson P Waythamoorthy has denied that he is spearheading a racist movement.
“We just can’t understand this racist label pinned on us through no fault of our own,” he told Malaysiakini.
“People who say that we are racists should first examine the meaning and definition of the term,” added the Hindraf leader who was given political asylum in Britain.
Waythamoorthy was responding to an avalanche of public comments against him.
This followed mostly calls in Sabah and Sarawak that PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim should re-assess his position in the party. Waythamoorthy was quoted in the article as well.

The best way for the Pakatan Rakyat to win back its lost Indian electoral ground is to team up with the Human Rights Party (HRP) with its socio-political arm Hindu Rights Action Front or Hindraf, suggested a Penang based academic.
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)deputy dean from USM's school of social sciences Sivamurugan Pandian said such a combination looked the best bet for Pakatan to reach out to Indian voters across the country, despite Hindraf's self-destructive tendencies.
Given that virtually all Indian-based parties and organisations were linked to Barisan Nasional, he said it was politically crucial for Pakatan to include an Indian face to its fold.

Hindraf Makkal Sakthi chair P Waythamoorthy has expressed cautious optimism over Pakatan Rakyat (PR) chair Zaid Ibrahim's call for change and reform in Malaysia.
Makkal Sakthi – people power in Tamil – is the Hindu Rights Action Front (Hindraf) theme.
Waythamoorthy (left) foresees that Sabah and Sarawak will be taking an increasingly neutral stance to determine who rules in Putrajaya.
“The March 2008 political tsunami in Peninsular Malaysia has given a chance for them do what is best for themselves,” said Waythamoorthy.
He was speaking to Malaysiakini in Kota Kinabalu from London.

Borneo Forum (BF), an all-Borneo NGO umbrella body, made the Malaysia Agreement the focus of its deliberations in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
BF brings together the Borneo Heritage Foundation (BHF), the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) and observers from Kalimantan.
The ad hoc meeting in KK resolved that the Malaysia Agreement will be raised by a Sabah-Sarawak delegation at a briefing at the House of Commons in London on March 19.
The London meeting was set up by Hindu Rights Action Front (Hindraf) chair P Waythamoorthy (right) who said that Hindraf will also be represented.

A third political coalition would be an exciting prospect for the growth of democracy in the nation, said a local academician.
Hailing it as a “good, progressive idea”, academic Sivamurugan Pandian said a third force would ensure that the people have a viable choice among three political coalitions, unlike now.
This was in contrast with the current situation where there were only two choices: Barisan Nasional or the opposition Pakatan Rakyat.
“A third force with a different common agenda would give (the people) realistic political choices.
“This would mature the country's democracy,” the lecturer from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) told Malaysiakini today.

I refer to the Malaysiakini report Of noisy Indians and 'keling' blood: Utusan strikes again.
The attacking of fellow Malaysians by the mainstream media Utusan Malaysia because of their race is unwarranted and most uncalled for. I remember in the late forties when I was a little boy living in my hometown of Raub, Pahang.
I used to pass road gangs of Tamil labourers toiling in the midday's scorching sun from dawn till dusk. Armed with only picks and shovels, they would be hacking at solid rocks to carve out roads along the mountain side.

Today 13th December 2009 is the 2nd year black anniversary of the detention of four Hindraf lawyers on 13/12/2007 under the draconian ISA.
About 50 Hindraf and HRP supporters gathered at the front of the HRP office at Jalan Abdullah, Bangsar and carrying an anti ISA banner walked peacefully to the nearby Nageswary Amman Hindu Temple with cries of “Hindraf Valga”, “Makkal Sakthi Valga”, “Manitha Urimai Valga” and “Mansuhkan ISA” exercising Article 10 of the Federal Constitution (Right to assemble peacefully).
Since 10.00 am there was heavy police presence in the vicinity of the HRP office.
As the peaceful assemblers were walking one Superintendant Azri stopped and tried to snatch the banner which was pulled back.

The apparent passport bungle-in-the-jungle involving Hindu Rights Action Front (Hindraf) Chief P. Waytha Moorthy,(pic) forced into exile in London since early last year, appears to have resulted in a clear stalemate. Not if viewed from the British and Malaysian Government positions, according to a senior Malaysian-Aussie lawyer in private practice in Brisbane .
“The onus, according to the Home Ministry’s thinking, is actually on Waytha Moorthy to collect his passport back from the Malaysian High Commission in London and move on,” noted senior lawyer Quintin Rozario, formerly from Klang, in an email exchange with Free Malaysia Today from Australia . “His family is waiting for him back home,” says the Malaysian Government.
